Join our weekly tot program for students ages 2 to 6 years old. This is a small group program with 2 to 4 children for each Kinderband! with two Kinderband! teachers for a personalized music experience. This is an excellent intoductory experience as a path for younger students to grow into a private lesson setting.
We prepare students with general music knowledge and skills as outlined in the CT State Educational Standards for grade two music students. Children work with real instruments to build positive musical and character foundations for the future. We make learning fun!
The following age breakdowns are general guidelines for the program.
Kinderband! for 2 & 3 year olds: This program is primarily experiential, with a focus on allowing our youngest musicians to touch and experiment with a variety of real instruments. Here, they will learn the difference between instruments and toys. They will also begin learning the most basic musical ideas such as note recognition while developing their musical vocabulary as they move through this important time for speech acquisition. As with all kinderbands, there is a focus on playing a variety of instruments along with instructors and band mates.
Kinderband! for ages 3 and 4: This program takes advantage of your child's expanding vocabulary and ability to participate in structured games and activities. Students' continue to develop their their understanding of musical terms and concepts. They also develop a greater ability to play along with their peers in a cooperative fashion while learning to recognize and play patterns read from musical notation. Students are also encouraged to "rock out" as they imagine themselves playing along to their favorite songs.
Kinderband! for ages 4 and 5: Students in this program will learn to play and write simple songs and perform them as a group. This program provides another opportunity for students to move away from an imaginary playing experience toward the "real thing". In this forum, parents have the ability to see their child playing a variety of instruments in order to determine the best direction for their young musician. Students gravitate to the instruments they like the best and will be most motivated to play on a regular basis. We recommend this program for anyone who is unsure if their child is ready for private lessons or uncertain about which instrument will be best for them to start on.
